Mr. Wang Shucai attended academic meeting and made presentations in Singapore

Mr. Wang Shucai from School of Humanities had attended the 17th academic meeting of Chinese Lexical Semantics inNanyang Technological University during May 19 to 22.He made a paper presentation in the meeting as well as deeply communicated with other scholars.This meeting was hosted by COLIPS; professor Shi Dingxu and doctorRafael E. Banchs were invited to be the keynote speakers.Professor Xu Jie, professor Wu Junxiong and Jin Peng took the invited lectures.

This five scholars come from five areas where Chinese is used.The lectures involved computational and traditional linguistics, the related research methods and approaches were developed as well through their research results.The current trends of Chinese Language in the World were introduced, for which is a reference to Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.

Mr. Wang took a presentation of his paper namedA Cognitive Contrast Study in Negative System of Modal Verbs between English and Chinese.The paper mainly explores the negative usage of modal verbs in English and Chinese language under the background of cognitive linguistics.There exists different manners and routes in focus and background of modal usage.After the presentation, other scholars and experts had offered some constructive suggestions and new research approaches for further study.

The meaning of this meeting is building a bridge between domestic research and international academics.Some important and advanced language theory and manners can be introduced to our researchers.That will be an enlightening event for the further study.
